The Rt Hon Lord Young of Graffham CH

The Rt Hon Lord Young of Graffham CH has had a varied and distinguished career in business and in public service. After graduating from University College London he practiced as a solicitor for a year, before entering the world of business, founding the first of many enterprises in 1961.

In 1979 he joined the government and he led on programmes to alleviate youth and adult unemployment. He entered the Cabinet in 1984, later becoming Secretary of State for Employment and then Trade and Industry until 1989 when he returned to the private sector.

He was Executive Chairman of Cable & Wireless PLC from 1990 until he retired in 1995 when he founded Young Associates. He was an initial investor in Silverwell and he introduced the other principal investors. He is Chairman of the Silverwell Board.

In 2010 Lord Young was appointed Adviser to the Prime Minister on Enterprise and served for the whole of the Coalition Parliament in No.10 publishing a number of reviews on the relationship between Government and small firms and enterprise and education.

In the 2015 New Year Honours List he was appointed a Companion of Honour.

Sir Lloyd Dorfman CBE

Sir Lloyd is an entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the Founder of the Travelex Group, the world’s largest retailer of foreign exchange which he started in 1976 from one small shop in central London. The business was sold in 2015.

He has a variety of other business interests. He is the Chairman and co-founder (2014) of Doddle, the e-Commerce IT Platform. He is also Chairman of Dorfman Media Holdings, formed in 2018, a media company focused on film and TV finance, production and related service companies.

He is a shareholder of The Office Group, the leading flexible office company, having been its Chairman and majority shareholder from 2010 to 2017 (until its sale to Blackstone in June 2017). He is also a Shareholder and Board Director of the London Theatre Company and sits on the Business Advisory Board of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

In the charity sector, he has been Chairman of Prince’s Trust International since December 2015. He was also Chairman of the Prince’s Trust from 2015 to 2018, having joined the charity’s Council (Board) in 2007. In addition, he is Deputy Chairman of the Community Security Trust and a Trustee of the Royal Opera House, the Royal Academy Trust, BAFTA and UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation. He was a Governor of St Paul’s School from 2005 to 2016. He served on the Board of the National Theatre for over nine years and one of its theatres, the Cottesloe, was renamed the Dorfman Theatre in 2013. He was Chairman of the Roundhouse from 2007 to 2010, and Trustee of JW3 from 2007 to 2019.

In 2018, he was awarded a Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to Philanthropy and the Arts, following his appointment as CBE in 2008 for services to Business and Charity. In 2011, he was awarded The Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy.

He is the Honorary Colonel of the Third Battalion of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment. He is also a Freeman of the City of London, a member of the Mercers’ Company, an Honorary Fellow of St Peter’s College, Oxford, and an Honorary Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn.

He is a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron, and The Garrick Club. He is married with three children, five grandchildren, and lives in London.

Darrell Johnson

Darrell is the CEO of Silverwell. He is an entrepreneur and technologist based in the UK. His thirty-year plus oilfield career encompasses senior leadership roles in drilling contracting, oilfield services and E&P operations. A theme throughout has been new technology introduction, initially in underbalanced drilling, and more recently in artificial lift. In addition to his role at Silverwell, Darrell has served in advisory and directorship roles, professional societies, and charitable organizations.

Jake Irwin

Jake is Managing Director of Sir Lloyd Dorfman’s family office where he focuses on private equity investments, primarily in growth businesses. He serves on the board of several investee companies, including Media Finance Capital, Doddle Parcel Services, Usnoop, Byhiras, and Untold Studios. Prior to that, he was Co-CEO of Fleming Family and Partners’ Advisory business. He joined Fleming Family and Partners in January 2003, and was involved in a range of transactions including managing the consortium of investors in Resolution Life plc, the acquisition of Heesen Yachts and advising on a wide range of private equity investments. Before joining Fleming Family and Partners, Jake spent three years in investment banking at Robert Fleming before moving to the consumer products investment banking team at Lehman Brothers. Jake graduated with honours from Oxford where he studied Biological Sciences.

Tom Tilton

Tom Tilton is the former Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Weatherford International, an international oil and gas service company. Prior to Weatherford, he spent 16 years at Baker Hughes in various engineering design and management roles in their completion and production business. Over a 40-year career in the energy industry, he led teams in the design of innovative new technology covering drilling, completion, and production phases of well construction.

Tom has served as a board member of ITF, a global technology facilitator company based in the U.K. and was a board member of the R&D Technical Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is the former chairman of the Engineering Leadership Board at the University of Houston and continues to serve as a board member. He received the American Society of Mechanical Engineers / University of Houston’s Outstanding Achievement in the Oil Industry award in 2012. He currently serves as a non-executive board member of Silverwell Technology Ltd. and as an advisory board member of Sage Geosytems.

A longtime member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Tom is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1976 with a B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and he is an inventor on 32 patents.

Munro Sutherland

Munro is Commercial Director at Silverwell. Munro is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience in the oil industry. He has served as Finance Director of Cairn Energy and Melrose Resources and as CFO of Seven Energy. Additionally, Munro has held several executive and non-executive positions with companies in the oil and gas and oilfield service sector. Munro holds a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and Finance from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Daniel Chapchal, a Chartered Accountant, has had a long and successful career which has seen him successfully launching new companies, rescuing and turning around struggling businesses and investing in new innovations in a variety of industries including print, security, automotive, oil and healthcare. He has also acted as Chief Executive of a number of large multinationals and has been Chairman of 2 public companies.
